alex and eric, engagement

Posted on July 23rd, 2008 by jen. Filed in engagement

alex and eric and i had so much fun shooting this on sunday! they went over and above with great ideas for outfits, outfit changes and most important great chemistry and open hearts.
we did a lot of driving around and walking but from start to finish, we worked for 3.5 hours! they had this great idea for thank you cards that is top secret so i can’t show you here and ruin it for all of their guests BUT i have to give eric major props for carrying a very heavy load all over LA! i love these. i hope you do.

i spied this randomly and thought it was so cute and novel! and as luck would have it penguins have special significance for them. if i had to name this, i’d have to call it “happy feet”. any guesses on why this is here? cause i am at a loss?

kini and eric, los angeles, ca - part 1

Posted on July 21st, 2008 by jen. Filed in wedding

let me preface this post by saying that there is something i fall in love with about every wedding.
kini and eric’s wedding however, checked just about every box on my ideal list. first of all i am head over heels in love with kini and eric. they are two of the most genuine, kind, easygoing and fun people i have ever gotten to work with. secondly, as much as i’m about being true to yourself above all else and really try to do that with my work and my business, i fully appreciated that kini and eric had EXACTLY the wedding they wanted. they didn’t let tradition, opinions or anything else sway them from what would be their perfect day. they tied the knot officially in vegas because seriously how can you beat getting married as elvis and marilyn? with the legal stuff out the way they were able to have a very personal ceremony with immediate family only, overlooking hollywood. the location was the sunset tower hotel. kini and eric both poured their hearts and souls out to each other and i was humbled to be in such a small circle of witnesses. then we had 2 hours, no joke 2 hours! to take as much time as we wanted for portraits with the sunset strip at our beck and call. then friends came later for an awesome party - no sit down dinner, no bouquet or garter, no first dance, just a lot of great people having a great time. thanks to all the extra portrait time, i have to break this post into two parts.

these christian louboutin shoes make me swoon.

these two portraits rock my world! i saw this tunnel of light and had to shoot in it. but when we got to the other side we saw an empty parking lot and heard music. there was a ghettoblaster just sitting there unmanned playing greenday which though none of our favorites, made for some kind of magical serenade. okay maybe you had to be there.

These pictures are so amazing and Jen was such a great photographer to work with! The shots she captured are so true to life and encompasses the personalities of the people in the pictures. She would go to any length to get a perfect shot- from crouching in bushes to sitting on ashtrays! My only regret is not having had her take our Vegas wedding photos. But I’m sure we will make up for it by having her do portraits of our children one day!

These pics are SO beautiful! You really have a great eye for photography… can’t wait to see the rest!!!

so i usually don’t blog a bunch of party pictures but because i know that the number one priority was for their guests to have fun i had to. and fun they did have!

i have never felt so bad about my subpar dance skills as at this wedding! their friends can dance!! not to mention kinis sister whose wedding i’ll shoot for free if she’ll teach me to dance like that!

i hope you guys had a really really great night!

cooper

cooper is a registered therapy dog and his mom lauren uses him to work with autistic kids. i love golden doodles, they remind me of giant teddy bears! cooper did a great job of working out the action shots and being still for some very shallow depth of field portraits. break out the hot dogs and cooper is ready to do anything for them.

Love the bubble shot–makes you wonder: Are they going up, or down? Also the ‘alligator’ shot in the pool. Great!

Lauren Jul 20th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

Thank you for taking Cooper’s pictures!!! They turned out so amazing! I love the first one of him running…he was also thankful to have another excuse to go swimming! Thanks again!

Chelsea Elizabeth Jul 21st, 2008 at 7:37 am

Love the bubbles and the running. My favorite is #3 for some reason. He just looks sooo happy. That one just speaks to me :)

finally, another girl in the house.

Posted on July 17th, 2008 by jen. Filed in pets

introducing . . . OREO. at least that is her name this hour. fox got to pick the name but we have had her 3 days and we have gone through these names: hello kitty, eva, nik, fluffy, trixie, maggie, and now . . .OREO. i think most appropriately for a black headed and tailed white in the middle cat - OREO.

fox and i were on a bike ride and this woman stopped us to ask if we knew this cat. she had been living in the woman’s yard for a week but the woman couldn’t keep her and was going to take her to the pound . . .GASP! we took her immediately to save her from the pound but really didn’t plan on keeping her but she is so sweet and instantly comfortable her that we decided she can stay. fox pulled shenny aside and had a serious talk with him and fox swears that shenny told him it was okay. based on the pics to follow, i’m not sure fox speaks cat but i’m sure they will be friends soon.

this stuff so belongs on cute overload

okay first, here is oreo.

img_6366.jpg

here is shen looking at oreo.

img_6363.jpg

oreo looking cute. shen very jealous that i’m taking pics of oreo (see him at back right in all his f1.8 blobness)
img_6337.jpg

he is not gonna sit back and let this photo shoot happen.

img_6352-2.jpg

attack cat.

img_6356-2.jpg

then shen runs away from oreo and straight to jones for some comfort. he obviously thinks the humans have forsaken him and is in desperate need of some canine love.

tony

Posted on July 15th, 2008 by jen. Filed in portrait

introducing tony. tony has been a dear friend of eric and mine for year. almost 6 years ago now, we asked him if he would get ordained and be our officiant at our wedding. that was just one of several extraordinary life events we have been friends through. from the birth of my son, to the death of a friend, tony has been a constant.
he has officiated many other weddings since ours but just recently decided to actually launch a website so couples have more ways than just 6 degrees of separation to find him. actor by trade, and genuine and giving in character, tony can tell the story of how you met with the genuineness of a best friend or crack you up. i have had the privlege with shooting plenty of wedding officiated by tony and what i appreciate most is how unique and personal each of the ceremonies are.

that all said, i really had to put the website of my mind to shoot these. tony really just wanted some jsr portraits so thats what i tried to do, just go by intuition and capture tony.
i hope you like this mr. spats. it was such a fun day!

i did shoot some standard headshoty stuff but these ones are my faves.

I love Tony! If I was getting married in California I would have hired him to marry me in a second. He did such a good job at Perique’s wedding. Such a great guy!

my original plan for this shoot was totally derailed by locked gate and trespassing signs. okay it was more the locked gate than the trespassing sign but the two together made me nervous to do any fence scaling. it forced me though to find some other locations that i ended up very happy i had to find. i would absolutely love to take a couple back here! thanks to lauren and drew for being amazing assistants! they were amazing polaroid exposure timers :)

i can’t tell you how hard it is to balance in deep dirt like this. your hands sink into it and have no firm and stable foundation. not to mention it kills your wrists having the heel of your hand sink deeper than your fingers. jessica, i love this shot, thanks for your hard work!

here are my assistants lauren and drew. drew really is this unhappy in this pic and lauren is acting it for me.

after my last booked maternity session was canceled to do the birth, i was very anxious to get becky’s shoot done before luke was ready to enter the world. pregnant mommies are my absolute favorite subject. i just can’t think of a better embodiment of the miracle that is life. luke your onesie is in the mail and i can’t wait to document your first days on planet earth.
