SarasWedding

michonne and mike have it all – a super cute love story, a mutual love for rescuing greyhounds, a serious commitment to having a “super rad” wedding on a budget and 3 vintage cars between them. see you in phoenix january 9th!

here is their story and you have to check out michonne’s blog http://www.weddingbycolor.com/RenoRx

“We both live in the Coronado Historic District in Phoenix, AZ. It is not one of the fancy-schmancy districts…. but it is an up-and-coming district with alot of character. I moved from Reno, NV to Phoenix in March of 2007 began volunteering for the Arizona Adopt a Greyhound (AAGI) group in an attempt to meet people and make some friends while fostering 3 greyhounds as well as taking care of my own 2 greyhounds. Our neighborhood is small, so I would see Mike and various other greyhound owners walking their greyhounds in the mornings, but we had never met. We also had no friends in common. Well, one hot Phoenix summer morning we both got up very early in an attempt to avoid the 110+ heat. I to move the sprinkler around my front yard so that it would look like someone actually lived here and loved their home while Mike was up to take his spastic greyhound (Ihop) for a walk. As luck would have it, Mike walked by my house at exactly the time that I felt the need to move my sprinkler. It was at this moment, I decided that I had absolutely nothing to lose if I approached him, I mean c’mon – he’s got a greyhound! I have five, that totally gives us something in common to talk about – I might get a friend out of this! So I run over to the sidewalk and pretended to be interested in his greyhound and in setting up a greyhound play-date, all the while wondering why he is backing away from me like I have the plague or 11 eyes. Afterwards, I just assumed that he was married and he thought I was being aggressive. No big deal, I had nothing invested to begin with. Long story short (Mike hates this part) he was backing away from me because he was wearing a pair of wrinkled up shorts, mismatched socks, dirty lawn shoes, he had not yet brushed his teeth and he was afraid I would notice and never want to talk to him again. Needless to say, I didn’t notice, he has been much better in doing his laundry, and his hygiene is wonderful. I know it’s long-winded, but it’s funny. :)

Mike proposed to me right after a dog-walk….exactly on the same spot where we met (according to him) on January 3, 2009. We were finishing up a short dog walk, which we do daily, and he turns to me and asks me, ‘Isn’t this the exact same spot right here where we met?” At this point, I’m turning down the path to my house, my back is to him and I’m non-chalantly saying, ‘Actually no, we met right over there (pointing) across the street’. To which he grabs my wrist to bring me back to the sidewalk and he replies, ‘Well you’ll remember this one better’ and he got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. It was incredibly romantic and wonderful all at the same time.

So there’s our story. We are still working on finding a place for our ceremony/reception that is not overly spendy as we both want to be prepared for the long-haul that this recession might bring to us. HOWEVER, we are looking to have a super rad wedding, basically our theme is hot-rod/vintage. Mike brings the hot-rod (he builds/restores old hotrods. He has a 1957 pickup & a 1931 Model A Roadster) while I bring the vintage flair (I have a 1946 Plymouth Delux, I love all things vintage as well as quilting, and running).”
